WHY DO WE RIDE?

Why do thousands of people ride countless miles every year in bikeMS events? Because multiple sclerosis is truly a devastating disease, and we cannot defaet unlss we are relentless in our fight for a cure.

bikeMS: Bright House Networks MS Ride connects people, creating friendships that last a lifetime and produces a commitment that can impact people's lives today and tomorrow. That's what bikeMS is all about. From start to finish we are on the move. Wheels are always spinning, advancing research to find a cure. Today, multiple sclerosis is a disease without a cure, but advances in the treatment and understanding of MS are achieved daily. This is why we ride.

This year bikeMS will be bigger and better that ever. You will be treated to a scenic route through the Central Florida's premiere cycling areas, festive rest stops, and celebration meals worthy of your tremendous efforts. Along the way you will be making friends and memories - all while making a difference.


Because MS does not significantly shorten a person's life expectancy, children with MS and their families will be living with the consequences of the illness for decades. Parents and other family members, teachers, and physicians and other healthcare providers all need to understand the impact of MS on a child's physical and emotional well-being and cognitive functioning.


This chronic, and currently lifelong, disease often comes unexpectedly; symptoms will suddenly reveal themselves in otherwise healthy individuals in the prime of their lives. By disabling functions of the central nervous system, multiple sclerosis can cause cognitive complications, blurred vision, incontinence issues, extreme fatigue, numbness or tingling in the arms, and can even escalate to complete paralysis and blindness. For the family, friends, and caretakers of the 400,000 Americans living with multiple sclerosis, it is heartbreaking to see someone they care about struggle with disease. Every hour of every day, someone new is diagnosed with MS. Multiple Sclerosis stops people from moving. We exist to keep people with MS moving.

BikeMS is no ordinary bike ride. It is an annual challenge and a commitment to improve the lives of those living with multiple sclerosis. In Central Florida alone, over 70,000 individuals are affected by MS. The funds raised support our programs such as Kid's Camp, Day of Discovery, educational programs for families, the MS medical equipment loan closet, quality of life assistance grants, and of course cutting edge research in the quest to find a cure for Multiple Sclerosis.
